The Education Excellence Contract
FAQs
1) What is the Educational Excellence Contract?
The Educational Excellence Contract is a step-by-step program that works with your students to help them embrace the necessity for high achievement in high school and post-secondary education.  The program was created by Dr. Boyce Watkins, a Syracuse University Professor, CNN Analyst and author of “Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about College”.
2) What are the goals of the Contract?

The goals of the contract are simple:

  • To create a spirit of academic achievement within the youth being impacted by the program.
  • To set high expectations for youth, teachers and parents
  • To facilitate the relationship between parents and teachers in order to benefit the students
  • To enlighten students to the tremendous benefits of higher education
  • To give students the confidence to believe they can be high academic achievers
  • To give teachers additional tools to prepare their students for higher education
3) The Contract is aimed at what particular age groups?
We have programs for all ages.  We vary the content of the course and process for students of different age groups.  We work to explain to parents, students and teachers the necessity of preparing for college early.  We also help them to learn exactly what they need to do in order to get into college, and to be successful once they get there.  All age groups 7th grade and higher have programs designed to maximize their academic success.
4) Should all students be targeted for college?
While we are not ones to say that every student should go to college, we certainly believe that college should be the rule, rather than the exception.  In too many cases, a poor performance in high school (as was the case with Dr. Watkins) leads students and parents to leave college off the table as an option.  However, we find that when students are told of the benefits of higher education and given the motivation/confidence necessary to believe they can be successful, they tend to make decisions which enhance their long-term potential.  So, while we cannot and do not force students to walk through the door, we certainly give them the motivation to open it..
5) What is the cost of having the Educational Excellence Contract Program come to my school?
The cost varies, depending on the nature of your event and the depth of your relationship with the program.  Long-term clients of the Educational Excellence Contract find that the economies of scale allow for the price to be quite low per pupil.
6) What makes this program unique?
Our program is unique for several reasons:  First, your students learn about college from a real college professor.  Dr. Watkins has 15 years experience teaching at top universities, so he can make sure your students get the inside scoop on what it takes to be successful in college.  Secondly, Dr. Watkins was born in poverty to a teenage mother, so he can relate to students who come from challenged backgrounds.  Third, Dr. Watkins was a poor performer in high school, so he can relate to students who fear education.  In addition to these factors, our program will reach out to local media to ensure that the community is aware of your program.  This not only enhances attendance, but ensures that the local community is aware of what you are working to achieve for your students.
7) Are there supplemental benefits to The Program?
Absolutely!  After your students are oriented toward Educational Excellence by Dr. Watkins, you are provided with 50 copies of a free textbook on college preparation.  Your students and teachers then have the option of studying the lessons taught by Dr. Watkins during his visit to your school.  This is a long-term commitment, not a one-shot deal.  If you wish to make a long-term consulting agreement in which Dr. Watkins returns to your school each semester, these options are available, and those participating in the program receive preferential treatment in the planning process.  We are here for the long-term to help you meet educational needs and expectations.

A final benefit is that Dr. Watkins draws media attention wherever he goes.  This can provide added benefit to your educational institution, as we have a staff that alerts local media to what you are doing for your children.  He is willing to do interviews on your behalf to let the community know that your school cares about its youth.  The best part is that there will substance behind the sound bites, and the program will actually deliver what the community expects to see from its best and brightest.
8) How do we get started?
It’s easy.  Just contact us and let us know what your needs are.  At that point, we will work with you to set a mutually convenient time for Dr. Watkins to meet with your students.
